Best Apollo alternatives in 2026. Honest comparison of 8 options
Apollo is the default answer when someone asks "where do I get B2B leads?". And for many teams it's the right answer. But not every outbound program fits Apollo's shape, and the alternatives in 2026 have diverged enough that "Apollo alternatives" now spans 4 totally different product categories.
This post covers 8 alternatives across those categories, honest unit economics for each, and a 30-second framework at the end for picking which fits your situation. No affiliate links. We sell our own thing (#8 below), so we have skin in the game, but the goal here is matching you to the right tool, not selling ours over the others. Including our own pitfalls.
If you're shopping seriously: Apollo's competitor isn't a single product. It's at least 4 different categories. Raw data, all-in-one platforms, sending tools (downstream), and done-for-you services. Mapping your need to the right category matters more than picking the "best" tool in any one category.
The most common mistake: shopping for an Apollo replacement when what you need is the opener-writing layer Apollo doesn't have. See #8 if that's you.
The 4 categories
- Category A. Enterprise data + sales engagement (Apollo's actual category): ZoomInfo, Lusha
- Category B. DIY enrichment + AI workflows (build it yourself): Clay, Persana AI
- Category C. Sending platforms (downstream of Apollo, not replacements): Lemlist, Smartlead
- Category D. Email finders + lightweight tools: Hunter.io
- Category E. Done-for-you services: Outbound-in-a-Box
1. ZoomInfo. The enterprise-tier alternative
ZoomInfo is what Apollo wishes it were when Apollo grows up. 430M+ contacts (vs Apollo's ~275M), deeper firmographics, intent data (Bombora-style), technographics, org charts, direct dials. The trade-off is price: annual contracts only, $15-80k+/year minimum, 4-8 week implementation.
Pick this when: you have a 5+ person sales team with dedicated ops/RevOps + budget to use what you're paying for. Don't pick this when: you're under Series A or the seat-cost won't be utilized. Full breakdown →
2. Clay. The DIY workflow alternative
Clay (clay.com) is a spreadsheet + workflow + AI builder for B2B data. Pull from any source (Apollo, Hunter, Crunchbase, custom scrapers), enrich with custom logic, generate personalized openers via prompts. The most flexible tool in the market. And the steepest learning curve.
Pick this when: you have an ops/RevOps person with 10-20 hours to invest in workflow building, and you want a reusable system across multiple campaigns. Don't pick this when: you don't have ops time. Clay decays fast if nobody maintains it. Full breakdown →
3. Persana AI. Clay's opinionated younger sibling
Persana (persana.ai) is a newer AI-personalization workflow tool that's more opinionated than Clay. Fewer building blocks, but the ones it does have are pre-tuned for common B2B personalization patterns. Faster time-to-first-workflow than Clay. Less flexible at the edges.
Pick this when: you want Clay-style workflows but don't want the full Clay learning curve. Don't pick this when: your workflows need full programmability. Clay's still the answer. Full breakdown →
4. Lemlist. Premium sending, not data
Lemlist is a cold-email sending platform with built-in warm-up (Lemwarm), multi-touch sequences, video personalization, custom landing pages, and LinkedIn integration. It's NOT an Apollo replacement. It sits downstream of Apollo (or any data source). You bring the prospect list. Lemlist sends.
Pick this when: you have data but need the sending + warm-up layer. Don't pick this when: you're shopping for prospect data. Lemlist's database is small. Full breakdown →
5. Smartlead. High-volume sending alternative
Smartlead (smartlead.ai) is built for cold-email at scale. Unlimited inboxes, automatic sender-account rotation, advanced warm-up, master inbox for cross-account reply detection. Like Lemlist, it's downstream of Apollo. Most-loved by agencies sending across rotating inboxes.
Pick this when: you need volume sending with multi-domain rotation + warm-up. Don't pick this when: you're sending under 50/day from a single inbox. Overkill. Full breakdown →
6. Hunter.io. The lightweight all-in-one
Hunter is one of the longest-running B2B email tools. Domain-based email search, individual email finder, email verifier, plus a basic Campaigns sender. Free tier covers 25 searches/month. Paid tiers scale to $199/month for higher volume.
Pick this when: you have prospect names + companies and need verified emails for them, plus a lightweight sender. Don't pick this when: you need a real prospect database. Hunter doesn't have one. Full breakdown →
7. Lusha. Apollo's more direct competitor
Lusha (lusha.com) is the closest like-for-like Apollo alternative. B2B contact database, browser extension for LinkedIn enrichment, basic CRM integration. Smaller database than Apollo (~150M contacts vs 275M), but often a better fit for solo SDRs or small teams who don't need Apollo's sequencing layer.
Pick this when: you want Apollo's basic shape (database + extension) at a lower per-seat price, and you'll use your own sender. Don't pick this when: you need the deepest possible database. Apollo or ZoomInfo are bigger.
8. Outbound-in-a-Box. The done-for-you alternative
We're not an Apollo alternative. We're an alternative to "buy Apollo + hire an SDR to write personalized openers." We deliver a CSV with prospects already pulled + personalized openers already written, grounded in real public signals (funding, hires, launches, etc.), refundable if any opener reads templated. You import the CSV into your existing sender.
Honest disclosure since this is our blog: we make sense for teams who don't have SDR labor available and don't want to spend 15-20 min per prospect of research time themselves. If you have an SDR sitting in Apollo all day, we don't add value. Apollo + their labor is the right setup.
Pick this when: you don't have SDR time but still want signal-grounded openers (not mail-merge). Don't pick this when: you already have SDR labor + Apollo + a working workflow. Full breakdown of how we compare to Apollo specifically →
The decision framework (30 seconds)
Two questions, in order:
- What's your team shape?
- Solo founder or 1-5 person team with no dedicated SDR → Outbound-in-a-Box or, if you want to do the work yourself, Hunter + manual research.
- SDR team of 1-3 → Apollo or Lusha, your SDR does the personalization.
- SDR team of 5+ with ops/RevOps → ZoomInfo or full Apollo, your ops team builds the workflows.
- Technical team with ops time → Clay or Persana, build the AI workflow yourself.
- What's your daily sending volume?
Note that Q1 picks the DATA tier. Q2 picks the SENDING tier. Most teams need one from each. They're not competitive in the way "Apollo alternatives" framing suggests.
The trap most teams fall into
The most common mistake is picking based on Q1 alone (data tier) and assuming personalization will magically happen. It won't. Apollo + a templated sequence = ~0.4% reply in 2026. Same data + signal-grounded openers per row = 4-7% reply. The differentiator is the opener-writing layer, not the data tier.
If your reply rate is stuck under 1% and you're already in Apollo, the answer isn't to switch databases. It's to add the opener-writing layer. That's either (a) more SDR labor, (b) a Clay/Persana workflow, or (c) a done-for-you service. The data alternative isn't the lever.
